About Us

The NSW Guild of Craft Bookbinders Inc, formed in 1979, consists of people of various occupations and ages but having a common interest in books, book crafts and bookbinding. The Guild's members include many professional bookbinders. The Guild’s role is to provide its members with facilities for learning skills at all levels, a workroom for the use of members and a venue to foster interest in, and knowledge of, this craft.

The objectives of the Guild as set out in the constitution are as follows:

  • To promote and exhibit the art of the hand-bound book
  • To maintain the traditional craft bookbinding skills
  • To seek and exert a progressive influence on the design and technique of bookbinding.
  • To further the cause of book arts in general
  • To undertake any other activity consistent with the above objects

Membership is open to anyone regardless of their bookbinding ability.

Our magazine "Morocco Bound " is published bi-monthly and contains articles of special interest to bookbinders as well as news of events and details of future workshops.

The Guild offers a range of monthly 1 or 2 day weekend Workshops on specialist topics for all skill levels. Our teachers include well recognised bookbinders and we occasionally host interstate and international bookbinders.

The Guild's Library has an extensive range of books, magazines and journals. These are available for members to borrow on workshop days or by contacting the Librarian.

The Committee of the Guild, is elected at the annual general meeting held in November each year. The Committee usually meets monthly and is responsible for managing the affairs of the Society.

The NSWGCB is located at Rozelle Writers' Centre in the Ralph Lewis Bindery, where our workshops are held. Click here for a map.
